Does it Have to be?

In the pursuit of education and elevation, the worst enemy is procrastination.

Society = ?

When I look around, I start to notice some things. Short attention span, no skepticism, rampant cynicism, and shopping. So what is our society for? It's not so much a self-righteous rant against soulless consumerism (because god knows I have got a lot of stuff I don't need to live) as it is a question. What are we striving for? Maybe it's because of my lack of enthusiasm for the future, which is very bad, but it seems that we are just moving in circles. Almost every country in the world are gaining on us while we do....... what? Education is hurting, but we pay teachers just enough not to starve (mostly). China and India pumps out degrees like they're having intelligent diarrhea. Our manufacturing is almost completely outsourced while the out-of-work blue collar worker are just one more humiliation shy of forming gangs to hunt down Mexicans who just happen to be the most convenient scapegoat. Never mind that our American based corporations sent those jobs out in the first place. Okay, now it is beginning to sound like a rant, but the point I'm making is that we, as a society, don't seem to have much to live for or strive to accomplish. We live, get married, have kids, raise them, then die. Is that really all there is? How are we advancing as a people? I am not that old but I look at kids today and I just have a sense that something is missing. But I'm not a parent so I can't really talk. But I want to sound the alarm. We should really think about what we can do to focus society. What is needed to bring the nation together and really work for something? This is the best nation on Earth, and I think we were meant to do something good. I hope to see this in my lifetime, maybe even cause it.

The Truth...................
..................................... she may be gone, but she will never be forgotten.
